The rise from an ordinary middle class gangster to a notorious and high class ruler, â€Å"Scarface† is a story of a man who gets his dream and desired status in the gang world through multiple phases of killing and torturing others. It’s a story of Tony Camonte (Paul Muni) and his rise and fall as a gangster, a story of violence that ends in self-destruction. â€Å"Scarface† not only portrays the ruthless achievement of a gangster but also gives the reason behind their achievement. After going through the movie and trying to relate everything in it, this statement indeed turns out to be the most significant part, together with the famous â€Å"X† motif. One of the boldest, raw and violent movies of all time, the story of â€Å"Scarface† blames the audience for the existence of gangsters and their mob activities. Three rounds of bullets are fired on an old-fashioned and obnoxious gangster named â€Å"Big Louie† in the early morning scene as dawn approaches. Tony Camonte has just killed his boss â€Å"Big Louie† because he plans to join another notorious and rival gangster â€Å"Johnny Lovo†. A waiter cleaning the mess from the last night party witnesses the killing of â€Å"Big Louie† but quietly leaves the scene without doing anything. A common man, who suppresses his voice against violence and injustice, is the reason behind the increasing gang activities according to the movie. Another scene shows the arrest of Tony Camonte and Guino Rinaldo (Tony’s right-hand man) in a local barbershop. The barber himself helps Tony in hiding the gun before police enters the saloon, which is another example of people helping gangsters. As police takes Rinaldo and Camonte for the investigation of Big Louie’s murder, general public surrounds the scene. Once again, both Rinaldo and Camonte have build up their notorious status among the public as they pass through the crowd to get into the car. Tony Camonte is a man with huge ambitions. He wants to rule the gangster world and the only way to achieve that is by killing whomever that falls in his way. Tony’s motto, â€Å"Do it first, do it yourself, and keep on doing it† leads him to achieve the ultimate fate that he was seeking for. He is the man who loves an extravagant lifestyle, as most of the time he is seen bragging about his riches to others, especially Poppy. Poppy is a slim, flat-chested blond with curly hair whom Tony finds to be attractive with. At one point Tony sees â€Å"THE WORLD IS YOURS† sign blinking at him and the world for him, at this point, is the possession of Poppy and being on top. Currently Lovo’s girlfriend, Poppy dislikes Tony at first but eventually ends up liking him. Now that she finds Tony attractive, she wants to be closer with him and wants to spend more time with him. Her concern for Tony is reflected in a scene where, after seeing him for a long time, she says, â€Å"Where have you been? On vacation? †. Despite being attracted to Poppy, there is barely any romantic scene in between Tony and her. Instead Tony is much more interested in his sister â€Å"Cesca†. Although the movie doesn’t show any incestuous relation between him and his sister, his feeling towards her is reflected in his conservative and protective nature for his sister from other men. He goes mad when he sees Cesca with other men. This nature causes him to kill his most faithful and close friend â€Å"Rinaldo†, the man whom Tony trusted so much that he had told his intentions of killing everyone to get to the top in a short car ride at the beginning of the movie. But even after his brother killed her husband, Cesca still goes back to Tony saying, â€Å"You are me and I am you†, which pretty much shows that she too had that feeling for her brother. As far as the relationship with his mother is concerned, his mother knows that Tony is in the wrong way and that he uses other for his benefits. Throughout the movie, his mother is seen disregarding him for his acts referring him as â€Å"bad† and â€Å"no good†. As Tony works in expanding the booze business, many of his rivals, including innocent civilians, are killed. Tony shows no mercy, as he knows why and what he is doing it. In one scene, Tony and Poppy are about to have lunch when suddenly, the North-side gang attacks them. The machine guns are fired through the glasses of the restaurant as Tony and Poppy hides behind a wooden wall. The bullets hit innocent people rather than the gangsters, but Tony doesn’t care for others. He leaves the scene with a happy face, as he gets a new machine gun, which he believes will ease his work. His way of dealing with booze buying customers is also very ruthless. As he gets the new machine gun, he starts killing the North-side gang by riding inside a car and shooting through the window. In this process a lot of simple civilians losses their life and in a particular scene, a barrel of beer gets knocked out into a woman’s room and a large crying voice of her is heard. All in all, he shows no mercy for anyone. The public is shown to be the cause behind the rise of gangster and public themselves are also shown to be the ones to suffer. For me the most interesting aspect of the movie was the â€Å"X† motif, which signals murder is imminent and also the pre-murder whistling of Comante. The movie’s credits in the beginning features the â€Å"X† symbol in the background. Not only that, â€Å"X† symbol takes varied forms like shadows, wooden-cross beams, Tony’s facial scar, number in the door, score in the bowling game, etc. In all cases, whenever an â€Å"X† appears, a murder happens. In addition to murders, the â€Å"X† motif covey a very important message too. We usually associate X sign with â€Å"the end†, or â€Å"closed/no way out†. The message that the movie is giving out is, once someone gets into the crime world, there is no escape. Discuss In my opinion the rule on double jeopardy should be abolished because although it protects the innocent from being prosecuted, it also protects criminals that have been let of for that crime from being tried again if new evidence has come up linking them to the crime. The double jeopardy rule should only be abolished with strict guidelines which ensure that the reason that it was first installed for still applies (to protect the innocent). One way that we could do this is by not completely abolishing the double jeopardy rule, instead just change it so that the double jeopardy rule still applies but with one small change, that a person acquitted of an indictable offence can only be re-tried if there is new evidence that connects the accused to the crime unquestionably. VIII. Discuss the outcome. Was justice done? Give your opinion on the events and point out any inconsistencies/problems surrounding the case. In my opinion justice was not done, because after the trial Bilynda Murphy, the mother of Jaidyn, ask for a full inquest to be held into the death of her son, to try and find out what happened to him, and in this inquest it was found that Greg Domaszewicz, although found innocent of his murder, was said to have played some part in the child’s death, if not being to direct cause of it. Being the last person to see Jaidyn alive, and to have left Jaidyn alone in his house, and then saying that he had been abducted, Greg Domaszewicz should have been able to help police find out what happened to Jaidyn. Mr. Domaszewicz while taking Ms. Murphy home from the Ryan’s Hotel, he tell her that Jaidyn is in hospital burns, which was played off as joke by Mr. Domaszewicz and his lawyer, but what person in their right mind would make a joke like that to a mother who is clearly intoxicated, that statement was not a joke, that was Mr. Domaszewicz trying to make up a plausible story to use as a cover-up for his crime, but when he saw that that story wasn’t a plausible one, he decided to make up another story, about Jaidyn being abducted. And the Pig’s Head group was a likely group to set up, since they, on the night of the crime, threw a pig’s head through the window of Mr. Domaszewicz’s house. But although the story might have been good in theory it was not so good in real life, because when they were questioned about the disappearance of Jaidyn Leskie they admitted completely about throwing the pig’s head through the window but strong denied that they had anything to do with the disappearance of Jaidyn, and said that they only threw the pig’s head through the window of Mr. Domaszewicz’s house but did not enter the house at all, and this was supported by the evidence, because no evidence was found that suggest, even in the slightest, that someone entered the house through the broken window. The defence argued that Mr. Domaszewicz could not have made it to the Blue Rock dam to dump the body, and then come back to tell Ms. Murphy that he son was missing, but how does that defence argue about his pants being wet from the waist down and his wet wallet that was handed to police when Mr. Domaszewicz was pulled over for a breath-test. All the evidence was there but was not acted upon. Although the case was weak, the was still evidence linking Mr. Domaszewicz to Jaidyn’s death and after the inquest it showed that he did play a part in the death of the child, he was the last to see Jaidyn, he was left in his house, if this was not murder then he should get charged with something because, he may not have been the direct cause of the child’s death but he most likely played a part in it.

According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, from the latter half of 1970s to 2004, the pervasiveness of excessive weight among children 2 to 5 years of age rose to 13.9 percent from 5 percent.   Among children 6 to 11 years of age, it escalated to 18.8 percent from 6.5 percent, while it increased to 17.4 percent from 5 percent among those who are 12 to 19 years of age (Center for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC]), 2008). Thus, certain efforts were made by health and education experts to help parents encourage their children to engage in sports, exercise, and eat a healthy, balanced meal. After all, prevention is better than cure. If not taken care of, the excessive weight can make children vulnerable to certain diseases like high blood, diabetes, and other health illnesses (CDC, 2008; Boyse, 2007). Many experts suggest that one of the ways to help these children to lose weight without sacrificing the food that they want to eat is to encourage them to engage in sports and other group activities (Weintraub et al., 2008; Nemours, n.d.; Boyse, 2007). By engaging in physical activities, it will not only help the individual shed body fat, it would also promote self-esteem (Weintraub et al., 2008). It is characterized by an exceptionally large volume of body fat with respect to lean body mass (Stopka, 2005). To know if an individual is obese or overweight, his or her body mass index or BMI is computed (Stopka, 2005; Daniels, 1997). This method considers the proportionality of the individual’s weight to his or her height child (Stopka, 2005; Daniels, 1997). The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) states that individuals with BMI of 25 to 29.9 are considered as â€Å"overweight,† while those with a BMI of 30 and above is considered as â€Å"obese† (Stopka, 2005).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   A number of studies have discovered that that breastfeeding is associated with overweight children (Hediger, et al., 2001). Once a mother fails to nurture her child with the practice of breastfeeding, chances are that the child will become overweight in the future. Breastfeeding helps to lower the risk of obesity during the stage of childhood and adolescence (Hediger, et al., 2001). Most cases of overweight among children occur during the adolescence stage when the transition from child to adult happens (Hediger, et al., 2001). The food intake is later on built up as fats if not properly burned out of the body (Hediger, et al., 2001).   Fat distribution is also changed during this stage which also incorporates hormonal influences. The condition also varies according to gender. When children eat more calories, they also need to burn more calories (Collins, 2007). This is also said to be an environmental cause of obesity due to the technological means of entertainment available for children today. The metabolism of a child is also inherited from his or her parents. Thus, an obese parent whose metabolism is slow would have children with slow metabolism as well (Collins, 2007). The family eating habits also play a great influence as to why a child becomes overweight. Preparing and laying too much food on the table causes a child to eat more. Shopping and buying unhealthy foods and calorie-rich items will also cause the weight of children to increase (Collins, 2007). Chances are that the child will accumulate certain diseases most of which are related to too much calorie, cholesterol and sugar intake. Bone problems are also expected for overweight and obese individuals. The social development of a child is also affected because of being overweight. This causes their hearts to weaken. With their relatively weak heart, it will pump harder than the normal sized individual. This condition is commonly known as cardiovascular abnormalities (Daniels, et al., 1997). Another cardiovascular abnormality that occurs in overweight or obese individuals is the escalation of blood pressure. When a child is obese, the blood pressure is more likely to increase. These cardiovascular abnormalities usually lead to a disease known as left ventricular hypertrophy which is a prevailing condition among obese and overweight children (Daniels, et al., 1997). This disease is characterized by an â€Å"increased left ventricular mass,† along with â€Å"lean body mass, fat mass and abnormalities in the systolic blood pressure† which predicts the accumulation of diseases such as â€Å"coronary heart disease, stroke and sudden death† (p. 804). Hypertension is also common for children with too much weight (Daniels, et al., 1997; Nemours Foundation, n.d.; CDC, 2008; Boyse, 2007).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The disease Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is also common among overweight children with a BMI of >30 kg/m2, which, according to adult standard, is counted as â€Å"obese.† According to the National Cholesterol Education Program, acquiring this disease also makes them vulnerable to cardiovascular diseases such as a coronary artery disease (Daniels, et al., 1997).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Being overweight also causes a child to mature early. In general, an overweight child’s body develops faster than those who have normal body sizes. Overweight female children also reach the pubertal stage earlier. Earth from Space Essay

The American astronaut Edgar Mitchell once described the earth from outer space as â€Å"a sparkling blue and white jewel,† a â€Å"light, delicate sky-blue sphere† outlined with â€Å"swirling veils of white† amidst a â€Å"thick sea of black mystery. † Indeed, the earth in space looks like a lonely sphere with neighbors separated by vast distances other than its one moon. More importantly, one can barely recognize the subtle details of the planet’s geographical features except the wide oceans and its land mass surrounded by water. From a distance, one cannot tell for certain that in that lonely planet lived billions of people going about their own ways day and night. If there are authorities who fit the role of describing the earth in space, no other groups of people can best fit that role other than the astronauts who for at least once or for a few times were able to catch a glimpse of our planet. Aleksei Lenov, a USSR astronaut, said that â€Å"the earth was absolutely round† while American astronaut Charles Walker’s attention was immediately caught by â€Å"a panorama of brilliant deep blue ocean† with â€Å"shades of green and grey and white† upon reaching outer space. There are still countless others who had the rare opportunity to take a look at the earth from such a distance afforded by the outer space. In general, it can be said that the astronauts took much notice of the more general features of the earth, focusing on the earth as a whole and not in terms of the multitude of land and water varieties that comprise it on closer inspection. That perhaps owes up to the fact that the view of the earth from outer space barely gives the viewer a broader look at our planet. Thus, the view of the earth in space only affords us several aspects of the earth to describe. For instance, one can easily recognize the seemingly boundless bodies of water occupying the larger regions of the earth. Take for instance the prominence of the Pacific Ocean as commonly illustrated in numerous books, magazines and scientific journals. Since much of the earth is covered in water, and much of the planet’s water comes from the Pacific Ocean, it is only expected from astronauts to immediately take notice of the Pacific. Satellite images also reveal how almost a third of the earth is comprised of those vast quantities of sea water, thereby prompting observers to not fail to see the deep blue blanket of water surrounding the lands and the people. More importantly, perhaps it is only through the view from outer space are we able to see the drastic effects of every tree cut down and a whole range of rainforests razed by fires and human activities. We may not be able to recognize the massive effect of these things right from the earth, but from outer space one may not fail to acknowledge the largeness of the scale of environmental degradations which have occurred through the years. It is only from that view from the outer space that we are able to see as well the vastness of the deserts that may soon become of the forests destroyed from cutting trees for daily human consumption. Although astronauts say there are still â€Å"green† parts of the earth as the view from outer space reveals, it can hardly be denied that much of the parts of the earth have remained the same over the past years, especially when the view of the earth from the past is compared to what it is today. Indeed, the chance to view the earth from outer space is the chance of a lifetime as only a very few selected number of individuals are given that rare moment. Moments like those experienced by the astronauts give us accounts of how our planet looks like, including its more general land, water and atmospheric features which, when taken altogether, offer a comprehensive understanding of the only â€Å"living† planet in the solar system thus far. Music has become an essence in the daily lives of people. I believe that people should know the importance on why music can have a positive effect. Consider the fact, that music gives the power to express yourself, it can help you escape from "reality", and that music has the power to con trol emotions, make a movement. First of all, music speaks what cannot be expressed. It doesn't matter if it's through singing, writing, producing or even dancing. These are all forms on how music allows you to express yourself. Even though music is a tool we use to express ourselves, it also helps us with our learning. Music enhances the process of learning by nourishing the system which includes our integrated sensory, attention, cognitive, emotional and motor capacities. These are shown to be the driving forces behind all other learning process. In addition, during moments of musical euphoria, blood travels through the brain to areas where other stimuli can produce feelings of contentment and joy. Then travels away from brain cell areas associated with depression and fear. With that in mind, consider the fact that music is a tool people use to escape from "reality". This is a type of stress release, and many people usually follow this due to problem going on in their family or had a really bad break-up. It allows them to let go of all those emotions they held for that person and move on. As well as a loss of a family member, music helps you cope and that's what's important. For instance, music has the influence to make a movement, control emotions. When you're watching a movie and a scene comes up where a girl is walking in a park with the bright sun light shining on her. Think about this though, if the background music has a thriller tune to it we automatically begin to think, something bad is going to happen. However, if the background music were a happy tune, we would think it's just a girl walking in the park. As well as, when we are feeling emotions of happiness we usually listen to the music we like, with rhythm and that just makes us want to dance. For some reason though, if we are feeling sad or mad or any other emotion besides joy. We tend to listen to a tune that will go with our emotions. For example, if we are feeling sad we would usually listen to a slow song. With that said, you have some people who would say that music is just a tool that's used to get distracted. Personally considering, I think that some educators or parents may oppose listening to music for educational purposes. Believe me when I say that listening to music helps students be more productive in the classroom. Think of it like this, music acts like a white noise which helps students stay focused from other students that are horse playing around or are asking too much question. Students usually take everything in, which keeps them distracted. The following guidelines are made for students to follow in order to accomplish their tasks. Students should listen to music they like and know; listening to new music will just keep them distracted. Students should not share music devices to listen to music, it creates commotion and it wastes time. Students should listen to music after the teacher's lecture; otherwise they will get distracted and won't listen to the teache r's instructions. When students are given the option to listen to music in class it gives them the motivation to get things done. Rather than not listening to music, we can see that students don't do their work and seem that they're not interested in the work. Overall, consider the facts that were listed in this essay on why music is an essence. Remember that, music helps you express yourself, whether you are writing or dancing to a song.
